INTENDED USE

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE
Interleukin-6 is a mediator of the immune system and has many biological functions. It is also considered as B cell stimulating factor (BCSF), B cell stimulating factor 2(BSF-2), hybridoma growth factor (HGF), hepatocyte stimulating factor (HSF), lytic T cell differentiation factor (CDF), etc. Elevated serum or plasma levels of interleukin-6 can occur in sepsis, autoimmune disease, lymphoma, acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), alcoholic liver disease, and infection, or transplant rejection.Therefore, by evaluating PCT concentrations, the physicians are able to engage in the risk assessment for progression to severe sepsis and septic shock.
